A Goa wedding is three or four days of moving between a hotel, a venue, a beach and a church or temple, usually with family who have never been here and luggage that has. One self drive car per family, delivered to the hotel, solves most of it. A luxury car with or without a driver solves the rest: the couple's entry, the parents' arrival, the photos. Here is how guests, the couple and whoever is organising should think about cars for a wedding week in Goa.
Quick answer
Guests: one 7 seater per family or one hatchback per couple, delivered to the hotel on arrival day and collected on departure day, with the airport run included. Couple and parents: a BMW, Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 or MINI Cooper for the wedding day, with a driver if there is drinking or a long saree, and a normal car for the rest of the week. Book early: the December to February wedding season is also peak tourist season and the luxury cars go first.
Do Wedding Guests in Goa Need a Car?
For a wedding at a single resort where the ceremony, the meals and the rooms are all on one property, a car is a luxury for the days either side: the beach you want to see, the market, the church in Old Goa. For a wedding spread over two or three venues, which is most of them, a car is the difference between arriving when you like and waiting for the shuttle bus with forty other guests in the sun. The usual pattern is a haldi at the hotel, a sangeet somewhere else, the wedding at a venue on the beach or at a church, and a reception at a third place, with everyone changing clothes in between. A car at the hotel door makes the changes possible.
Families with elderly parents get the most out of it. A grandmother who wants to go back to the room after the ceremony and return for dinner can, in her own time, without asking the organiser for a cab.
Which Car for a Family of Wedding Guests?
Count the people and the outfits. A family of four with two large suitcases and the clothes for three functions wants a 7 seater: an Ertiga for budget, a Carens or Alcazar for comfort, an Innova Crysta or Hycross if the family is six and the bags are many. Two guests travelling together are happiest in a Swift, i20 or Baleno, which parks anywhere, including the narrow resort lanes in Cavelossim and Candolim where the big venues are. An automatic is worth it for anyone who will be driving in a sherwani or after a late night.
Get the car delivered to the hotel on the day you arrive. Airport handover is also free, and for a family landing at Dabolim and staying in the Cavelossim resort belt it is the simplest option: twenty minutes to the hotel in your own car instead of a queue at the taxi counter.
What About the Couple and the Parents?
This is what the luxury fleet is for. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6 are the parents' cars and the bridal entry cars: long, quiet, with a back seat that a lehenga fits into. The BMW 3 Series and the 3 Series GT suit a couple who want to drive themselves to the reception. The Audi A3 Cabriolet and the MINI Cooper are the photo cars, for the pre-wedding shoot on the coast road and the exit from the venue with the roof down.
Decide early whether the car needs a driver. For the wedding day itself, usually yes: nobody in the wedding party should be parking a Mercedes at a venue gate with a photographer waiting, and anyone drinking at the reception should not be driving away from it. We supply the luxury cars with a driver for the day and as self drive for the rest of the trip, so the usual arrangement is a chauffeur for the wedding day and an ordinary car for the beach days around it.
How Do the Venue Areas Differ for a Driver?
- Cavelossim, Mobor and Varca. The big South Goa resort belt along the Sal river. Wide, quiet roads, resort parking, around 30 to 40 minutes from Dabolim and over an hour and a half from the North Goa beaches. Easy driving; just a long way from anything else.
- Candolim, Sinquerim and Fort Aguada. North Goa's resort strip. Good hotels, one main road that fills up in the evening, parking that depends on the venue. Closer to the nightlife and to Mopa than the south.
- Assagao, Siolim and the Bardez villages. Villa weddings and boutique venues in the lanes inland from Anjuna and Vagator. Narrow single track roads, no public parking, a cow on every corner. Bring the small car and ask the venue where guests leave vehicles.
- Old Goa churches and the Ponda temples. Ceremony venues, not stay venues. Parking is in public lots a walk away, and on a Sunday or a feast day the lots fill early.
How Early Should Wedding Cars Be Booked?
Earlier than the guests think. Goa's wedding season runs through the dry months from November to February, and December in particular overlaps with the Christmas and New Year crowd, when every car in Goa is spoken for. The luxury cars go first because there are fewer of them. If the wedding is in December or on a long weekend, book the couple's car and the parents' car the moment the date is fixed, and the guest cars once the guest list is. Our December guide explains why the car is the thing to book before the hotel that month.
For a large party, send us the list in one go: how many families, how many people in each, which hotels, arrival and departure flights. We assign the cars, deliver each to the right hotel on the right day, and collect them at the end. One contact, one confirmation call, one help line number for all of it.
What Do Guests Need to Bring?
The same as any renter: a valid driving licence, one photo ID and the refundable deposit for the person booking. Guests flying in from abroad need their home licence and an International Driving Permit, which has to be arranged before they travel, so put a line about it in the wedding invitation or the guest WhatsApp group. The documents guide has the full list in a form you can forward.
