Quick answer
IFFI 2026 runs from 20 to 28 November and is centred on Panjim. A car is worth it if you are staying outside the city or moving between the Panjim, Porvorim, Margao and Ponda screens. Inside Panjim, park once in a proper car park and walk between the riverfront venues. Leave extra time around Miramar Circle and DB Marg.
When Is IFFI 2026 and Where Are the Screens?
The festival's own rules page confirms the dates: the 57th IFFI runs from 20 to 28 November 2026, opening on 20 November and closing with the awards ceremony on 28 November. PIB's media note of 1 October 2026 names Panaji as the venue.
When we checked on 3 November 2026, the 2026 screen list had not been published. Last year's list is the best guide, so confirm on iffigoa.org before you plan where to park. For 2025, the Chief Minister said films would be screened at INOX Panaji, INOX Porvorim, Maquinez Palace, Ravindra Bhavan in Margao, Magic Moviez in Ponda and the Ashok and Samrat screens in Panjim, with open-air screenings at Miramar Beach, Ravindra Bhavan and Vagator Beach. Delegate help desks were at INOX Panjim, INOX Porvorim and Kala Academy.
| Venue (2025 list) | Area | What it means if you drive |
|---|---|---|
| INOX Panaji and Maquinez Palace | DB Marg riverfront, Panjim | The busiest cluster. Park once and walk between them. |
| Ashok and Samrat | Panjim | Inner city streets. Walk if you are already parked in town. |
| Kala Academy | Campal, Panjim | Help desk and festival events. Also on DB Marg. |
| INOX Porvorim | Across the Mandovi | Needs a river crossing from Panjim. See the one-hour rule below. |
| Miramar Beach (open air) | Miramar | Evening screenings next to one of Panjim's regular jam points. |
| Ravindra Bhavan | Margao | Handy if you are staying near Colva or Benaulim. |
| Magic Moviez | Ponda | Inland. Pairs well with a temple visit. |
| Vagator Beach (open air) | North Goa | Easier from Anjuna and Vagator stays than from Panjim. |
Should You Drive or Use the Delegate Buses?
Last year the organisers arranged free transport to all venues for delegates. Business Goa reported three routes starting at Miramar Circle: to INOX Porvorim, to Magic Moviez in Ponda and to Ravindra Bhavan in Margao. If 2026 follows the same pattern, a delegate staying in central Panjim may not need a car between screens.
A car earns its place when:
- You are staying in Candolim, Calangute, Assagao or South Goa and need to get into Panjim and back every day.
- You want the Margao or Ponda screens and dinner somewhere the delegate bus does not go.
- You are carrying camera kit or a laptop, or travelling with someone who isn't watching films all day.
- Your last screening ends late and your stay is outside the city.
Plan the Porvorim and Panjim hop with care. Under last year's ticket policy, delegates could only book shows at different venues, such as Porvorim and Panjim, if there was at least an hour between the end of one and the start of the next. That hour covers crossing the Mandovi and finding a parking spot, which tells you how the organisers read the traffic.
Where Can You Park Near the IFFI Venues in Panjim?
Start with the Patto multi-level car park. Prudent Media reported in October 2026, from the High Court traffic case, that the Patto facility has space for around 600 vehicles and is underused. From there, the riverfront venues are a walk or a short auto ride.
Avoid the DB Marg kerb. In October 2026 the High Court of Bombay at Goa directed the state to notify the stretch from the Panaji Residency petrol pump to Panaji Church as a no-parking zone, with passenger drop-offs moved behind the Old Secretariat, according to Prudent Media. That stretch runs past the main festival venues.
Opening day has its own rules. For the 2025 opening, Navhind Times reported that pass holders could park at the INOX multiplex, the Kala Academy pick-up and drop points and Market Lane, while Jose Falcao Road, Joao Castro Road, Match Corner to Casa International, Caculo Island to St Inez junction, Church Square to the Cortin footbridge and Down the Road pub to Match Corner were no-parking zones. Expect a similar notice for 2026 a day or two before 20 November.
Watch for a park-and-ride plan. Digital Goa reported on 2 November 2026 that the DGP said police were assessing ways to ease congestion from large events in Panaji, pointing to larger cities that park visitors away from venues and run shuttles. If a shuttle plan appears for IFFI, use it.
Which Roads Jam During IFFI Week?
Panjim's regular choke points stay busy through the festival, and Miramar Circle matters twice during IFFI: last year it hosted open-air screenings and was the starting point for all three delegate bus routes.
Evenings on DB Marg are the slowest. The High Court case named offshore casino operations, indiscriminate parking and unauthorised drop-offs as major causes of congestion on DB Marg and MG Road, and evening screenings overlap with casino hours. Under the court's directions, as Prudent Media reported in October 2026, traffic police will be on duty until 9 pm and city buses will run until 10 pm.
Opening day closed roads last year. The 18 November rehearsal closed DB Marg from the Old Secretariat to Kala Academy between 3 pm and 5 pm. On 20 November, floats gathered at Merces junction and near Divja Circle, and incoming traffic over the new Patto bridge was diverted at the Dayanand Bandodkar statue. Check Goa Traffic Police notices from around 17 November for the 2026 plan.
How Do Panjim's One-Way Streets Change the Drive?
The market area runs on one-way streets with limited parking, and a missed turn can send you round the block more than once. Three habits help:
- Decide where you will park before you leave, and put the car park into your maps, not the cinema.
- Walk the last stretch to the venue.
- Keep out of the Fontainhas lanes. They are narrow and no faster.
Arriving by Train or Plane for IFFI?
Karmali is the closest railway station to Panjim, so it is the easiest place to collect a car if you are coming in by train for the festival. See self drive cars at Karmali station. If you are staying in the city itself, see car rental in Panjim.
Flying in? Collect the car at arrivals and drive to your stay before the evening build-up on DB Marg.
Which Car Suits IFFI Week?
For Panjim, smaller is easier. An Economy Hatchback fits tighter slots at Patto and in Campal, and it is simpler in the one-way market area. If four or five friends are sharing a week of screenings from a North Goa villa, a 7 Seater keeps everyone in one car and one parking space.
