Renting a Car at Thivim Station: The North Goa Arrival

Thivim Car Hire

Quick answer: Yes, you can collect a self drive car at Thivim Railway Station. It is a small station in Bardez, just outside Mapusa, and taxis outside go quickly when a full train comes in, so book with your train number and the car is waiting at the exit when you arrive.

Thivim Railway Station sits in Bardez taluka, a few minutes outside Mapusa, and it is the stop most people use for the North Goa beaches: trains from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Delhi on the Konkan route stop here. It is a small station. There is no big taxi rank, and when a full train pulls in the handful of cabs outside are gone in minutes. That is the whole case for a pre-booked car at Thivim: you walk out, the car is there, and Mapusa market, Anjuna, Calangute and Baga are a short drive away depending on traffic.

Where Do We Meet You at Thivim?

Our team waits by the station exit with the car and calls you as the train arrives. The handover takes about ten minutes: licence and photo ID checked, a walk round the car with a phone camera, a photo of the fuel gauge, keys. The refundable deposit is agreed on the confirmation call, not at the station. If you are arriving on an overnight train, say so when you book and we have the car ready before the scheduled time.

What If the Train Is Late?

We follow the running status and move the handover to match, day or night; the help line runs 24 x 7. Konkan Railway runs a monsoon timetable from 15 June to 20 October 2026, as stated on the Konkan Railway website, and trains run slower through the rains, so expect longer delays in those months. A delay changes nothing for you except the time we meet.

Where Do People Drive From Thivim Station?

Distances are approximate, and drive times change a lot with the hour: the roads to Calangute and Anjuna fill up in the evenings through peak season, so leave some slack in your plans.
DestinationFrom ThivimGood to know
MapusaRight next to the stationMarket town of Bardez. The Friday market is the one to catch; roads around the bus stand are slow that morning.
Calangute and BagaA short drive westBusiest beaches in Goa. Narrow approach lanes, parking scarce in season; a hatchback suits them.
Anjuna and AssagaoA short drive westWednesday flea market, cliff cafes, and the restaurant village of Assagao. Winding lanes with blind corners.
Vagator and Chapora fortJust north of AnjunaHilly approach roads up to the fort; the Thar is the favourite here.
Morjim, Ashwem and MandremAcross the Chapora riverQuieter northern beaches with boutique stays.
Mopa airportAround 20 to 25 km up the highway through DhargalUseful if part of the family is flying in later.
Panjim and Old GoaSouth via the NH66The capital and the UNESCO churches, an easy day out.

Which Car Suits a Thivim Arrival?

  • Economy Hatchback (Swift, Baleno, i20, Glanza): the right car for the lanes between Calangute beach road and the market, and for Assagao's single track village roads. Two people, a couple of bags.
  • 7 Seater (Ertiga, Carens, Innova Crysta): families coming off the train with suitcases.
  • Thar: the hill roads up to Chapora and the coast road north to Morjim and Arambol. Four seats, or five in the Roxx.
  • Compact SUV (Creta, Venue): four people with luggage who want a higher seat for the highway run.

Most of the fleet comes as an automatic, from the Swift and i20 to the Creta, Ertiga, Innova and Thar; worth asking for if your evenings will be spent in stop-start traffic between Calangute and Baga.

Self drive cars at Thivim station start from ₹999 per day. Send your train number and date on WhatsApp or a call, and we confirm the car, the rate and the meeting point.

Coming to Thivim in the 2026 to 2027 Season?

Peak season on the North Goa beach belt runs roughly from November 2026 to February 2027, and cars for Christmas and New Year week usually go first. Send your train number and date once your ticket is confirmed. Long stay visitors who base themselves in Assagao, Siolim or Mapusa through the winter can ask about a monthly rental; our long stay guide covers how that works.
